Tech company startup name?

Yes, when thinking about websites most of us default to .com if we don’t know the domain on which the website was. Recently though, at least for tech companies a creative and catchy alternatives have come to mind - .io or .tech.
Since .io represents input/output for short (I/O) the new tech startups love it and for tech savvy people it will be catchy and easy to remember.

Also if you have global audience then .tech is good too since it has same search engine ranking as any other gTLD, though it adds a keyword to your domain name and search engines love keywords in domain names.

What is the difference between the World Wide Web and The Internet?

So many people are browsing websites, sharing images and other data online, and for them we can say that they are consumers. These consumers do not need to know the details about the technology that is used to enable that online content for them. The average consumer thinks that he is using "internet", although, in fact he is using "www" (world wide web service) when he is browsing websites, that is enabled over the infrastructure that is "internet". Many hostnames used for the World Wide Web begin with www because of the long-standing practice of naming Internet hosts according to the services they provide. When a user submits an incomplete domain name to a web browser in its address bar input field, some web browsers automatically try adding the prefix "www" to the beginning of it and possibly ".com", ".org" and ".net" at the end, depending on what might be missing.  However, all this ...

After the domain name expires, who can sell the domain name and make a profit?

Original owner can renew before it expires, after it expires there is a redemption period when he can renew but with added redemption cost fee. When the redemption period is over, if the domain name has value, the registrar will put it to auction and after the auction end it will go to the highest bidder. If there are no auction bids then registrar will return the domain to its registry and it will be available once again for anyone to register.

Are there any drawbacks (SEO or otherwise) to .us domains?

Other than people mindeset to “default” to .com when searching, there are no drawbacks to .us and search engine wise it is even better for websites that want to target USA audience as it is a ccTLD. I would recommend Accredited Registrar for registering a country code domain name.
