How do you create and sell domain names?

Selling domains can be done through domain name auction and marketplace websites (sedo.com, etc.) but you have to expect that they will take a cut of sales, and auctions are not the most profitable because you can’t expect big figure sales. A much better approach to selling a domain name is to research a possible market for it. Here is an example of what the process should look like:

1. Research current industry trends, for example: car automation is on the rise, virtual reality is somewhat of a thing, crypto currency and mining, to name a few obvious ones. If you are able to spot a niche technology or trend and beat others to it, then you could think of some domains in that niche, but also keep in mind:

2. Even before registering a domain, you should do some research of possible clients. Companies that would see buying that domain as a sort of investment. When you can find those, you will be making more serious profits.

3. Contact those companies by email and maybe even phone, but prepare a solid marketing strategy for your domain name, with some points on how it could benefit them. The value of the industry in question will determine what price you can ask for the domain name.

You should have some idea of its average worth.

How important is adding your location to a domain name?

There is no real need to add your location to domain name. If you need to target local audience best strategy is to get a country code domain name. At present search engines give favor to ccTLD in local search so your website would display before generic top level domains such as .com or .org etc. For example if a someone from UK uses Google to search, it will get .uk and . co.uk first and then under will be .com and other generic top level domains. Then again if your company already owns a generic top level domain which has some value in ranking and you have some global audience it would be best that you register the ccTLD too and redirect it to your main website to get best results local and global.

How many extensions (.org, .info) or domain names should you buy if you already own a .com extension of a domain and have a developed website?

While owning .com domain name, but depending on your business niche, other businesses competition level and how developed your brand is, you could get same domain name with other domain extensions (.org .net etc.) to protect your company or brand from scam website who would try to impersonate and steal your clients or their data. On the other hand, if your goal is to further develop your main website and increase "organic traffic" then my suggestion is to get some keyword domain names. Though keyword domain names are not that much relevant with SEO anymore (because search engines now literally "read" your website content and "know" what your niche is, so you do not need keyword in your domain name), people are still searching internet using keywords in search engines. Having a few domain names with keyword, that are relevant to your website niche, could get you increased traffic from people searching, though the amount of traffic
