Net neutrality awareness? What you should know and understand.

It would not be the death of the Internet as we know it, you will still be able to access most of the websites for free. However, it would be a birth of a new, much more monetized internet, where you must pay extra for many services we are getting for free. Also you may not be able to access some of the websites or services at the internet provider service discretion, as they "do not support that content".

Video access services would suffer the most if the internet neutrality would be lost. Net neutrality main goal is about preventing the ISPs favor some video streams while they deny access to other. Cable companies that have flourished in the 90s, are now craving to make a combination of video distribution and broadband Internet connection services, that will provides additional opportunities and incentives for cross-subsidizing between the different services that they bundle. Long story short, they want to make more money.

Much like water or electricity distribution, internet needs to be regulated and operated by a neutral entity, which will enable all other media services to be delivered through this platform on competitive terms and affordable prices toward end user. Video streaming is the most relevant as it requires a lot of bandwidth,  so it is one of the things around which the cable internet providers have a conflict of interest.

In a event that there is no neutrality, you can expect some services to work much better than others, depending who is your internet provider.
The neutrality situation today, is much similar to the issue of telephone line  in the 50s.

What is the difference between the World Wide Web and The Internet?

So many people are browsing websites, sharing images and other data online, and for them we can say that they are consumers. These consumers do not need to know the details about the technology that is used to enable that online content for them. The average consumer thinks that he is using "internet", although, in fact he is using "www" (world wide web service) when he is browsing websites, that is enabled over the infrastructure that is "internet". Many hostnames used for the World Wide Web begin with www because of the long-standing practice of naming Internet hosts according to the services they provide. When a user submits an incomplete domain name to a web browser in its address bar input field, some web browsers automatically try adding the prefix "www" to the beginning of it and possibly ".com", ".org" and ".net" at the end, depending on what might be missing.  However, all this ...

After the domain name expires, who can sell the domain name and make a profit?

Original owner can renew before it expires, after it expires there is a redemption period when he can renew but with added redemption cost fee. When the redemption period is over, if the domain name has value, the registrar will put it to auction and after the auction end it will go to the highest bidder. If there are no auction bids then registrar will return the domain to its registry and it will be available once again for anyone to register.

How important is it to have a killer URL?

What would be the definition of killer URL? It means your website is on a single domain, website structure is done with permalinks (human readable separate page URLs) which are done with keywords, shorter URLs are better because the communication is clearer, page titles match URLs, avoid punctuations or hash in URL… etc.   If the website is not a straight company presentation then it’s best to have some keywords in domain name, and in the website page names too - as it will enable the search engines to better index your content and give your website better ranking in the niche you are targeting. Two medium word or even three short ones for the domain name is fine. That why most “domainers” pre-register good word combo in hopes to resell them later.
